The Jewish minority in the Netherlands

I'm a 11th grade student from Ort sience and leadership Daliat El Carmel, I visited The Netherlands as a part of the young imbassadors project. During the visit i was exposed to the Jewish minority in The Netherlands and I learned things that I didn't know before.

As a part of the Israeili young ambassadors project I visited The Netherlands , and I got to meet youth from the Jewish community in Amesterdam.

I learned that the Jewish community is a minority in The Netherlands, just like us, a Druze group from Israel who went out to represent and explain our community and our country..

I was also surprised to find that some Jewish schools have extra protection around them, for example when we visited the Maimonides school I noticed alot of guards and armed soldiers around the school, and the glass is bullet proof.
The school directior told us that they never had any attacks on the school, but they want to be prepared for any situation because of the latest events in Paris..

Also when we visited the Liberal Synagogue, I noticed that alot of Jewish people actually wear their Kippas and show their relegious signs.

It actually depends on the person, some people are comfortable showing that theyre Jewish, and others prefer to "hide" it.
But other than that the Jewish community in The Netherlands have all the rights and the government supports the Jewish community in alot of ways..

In this journey we took part in the Yom-Hazikaron Memorial, in the Jewish cultural center in Amesterdam, and in the Maimonides school, and we got to represent and remember the Druze soldiers who fell in the IDF battles.

The Jewish community accepted us, and some of them got really excited to meet us, because after all we all have the same fate, and we both sacrifice oursleves in order to protect our land.
The Jewish community in the Netherlands is very connected to Israel, and what's happening in Israel.

The youth that I met explained to me that they are raised to respect everyone no matter what their religion or skin color is, and that's basically how the people in the Netherlands live, there are many different cultures and religions, and they're still living in peace together, just like in Israel.

Most importantly, I have to mention that every one of us represent Israel even if we're not a part of a project or a group.

Because people will always see you as an Israeli, and it doesnt matter what you do youre always representing this country, either in a good or in a bad way, you choose.
